Dear Friends,
This week I saw a lone bicyclist wearing a mask, but not a helmet-not so safe! I have also seen people driving alone with masks on and while I understand the idea of not wanting to spread the disease, an individual cannot give the disease to oneself!
Also, it is not always a healthy thing to have a mask on often-especially if you have a cardiovascular or respiratory issues. So wear it when it’s appropriate, like when you are around people who are not living in your house, but no more than needed. It inhibits airflow and increases your inhalation of the waste gases that you have already exhaled. So you do not need to wear them at home with loved ones or when you are alone.
Topic of the week: Allergies
I have suffered from allergies for as long as I can remember. I have never been able to do nasal rinses-the water would never come out! Six months ago, I had a massive polyp taken out of my nasal passage and I have been performing nasal rinses every day since and guess what? No allergies!! I believe the accumulated allergens caused the irritation in the past but being able to rinse has kept the allergens and infectious agents down.
So from this experience comes a couple seasonal and immunity tips:
- Nasal rinses with salt water help flush allergens and infectious agents out of your nasal pharynx.
- Gargling with salt water does the same for the throat and airway.
- Drink lots of water. This takes allergens and harmful bacteria into the stomach where the stomach’s natural acids destroy them. Your stomach acid is one of our first and strongest lines of immune defense.
- Get outside and get some sun! 10 minutes of sun on your arms a day boosts immunity.
- Allerplex for seasonal allergies is a wonderful alternative to antihistamine drugs. It also is very similar to Congaplex (acute immune support ) and Immuplex (immunity building) but if you are using Allerplex you do not need either of the other supplements as that would be redundant. All three of them also act as a multivitamin-they are that complete.
So as the weather improves go enjoy outside and have some fun in the sun. Let the sunshine hit your face!!
God Bless,
Dr. Dan and Dr. Jean
