Jim Scherer was the director of Camp Anokijig for nearly 30 years. He recently passed away at 80 years of age. I had the pleasure of fundraising with Jim for the camp through a charity competition involving Ironman triathlons. It was one of the most gratifying experiences of my life.
In speaking with someone from camp after his passing, she mentioned that “his shoes will be hard to fill.” My response was that knowing Jim, he would not want her to fill his shoes but step out of them. That was what I loved about Jim; he was wiling to expand beyond what you thought was capable. He was willing to go through the uncomfortable to obtain better opportunities for the kids at Camp.
Growing your health is no different. You have to be willing to step out of your shoes and get your feet dirty. You have to try different approaches to see what works best for you. Heck, as life changes, what worked for you in the past may not work for you now and visa versa. So step outside the box and experiment with nutrition, rest habits, exercise, supplements and even medicines that are needed.
What are you waiting for?
Camp Anokijig serves more kids now than it did when it was owned by the Racine YMCA. Why? Because they had the opportunity to thrive on their own and grow. They did it by partnering with people in our community as well as all over so that Camp could thrive. They did it because they have PASSION for their cause.
Do you have passion for your health? If you don’t, why would anyone else? Kick your shoes off and put your feet on the ground and start building your healthy foundation.
Speaking of foundation- your feet are your foundation. We use Powerstep orthotics to support flat feet (plantar fasciitis). We love that they are comfortable, light, durable, inexpensive and supportive. Here is a link to some exercises you can do to help strengthen and stretch your foot.
In honor of Jim Scherer, we will donate $10 from every pair of Powersteps sold this month. That money will go to sponsoring scholarships for children who are in financial need but still want to experience the magic of Camp Anokijig. Help us make a difference in your foundation AND for kids!
