One of my favorite patients is in his mid 70’s and is a very funny man. Our last conversation started with him saying, “I had a realization the other day, that getting old is quite easy- staying young is really hard!” I laughed because I have patients who talk about how hard getting old is.
He is right, getting old is easy…you do nothing and you’ll get old. That simple. Staying young actually isn’t hard either, it just takes consistent good habits.
It also helps to start early. I treat a lot of elderly who say the exact same thing, “If I knew I was going to live so long I would have taken better care of myself.” Oh to live with regret.
So pass this email along to the young ones that we can still save! Ha!
But for real it is never too late to start but in order for good habits to work, they need time to manifest, just like a garden.
Good health takes weeding, seeding, and feeding.
1. Weeding- getting rid of destructive behaviors and habits.
2. Seeding- planting of good habits and ideas into your lifestyle.
3. Feeding- nourishing your body with healthy whole foods that allow for maximum performance and repair.
We actually use this concept with healing the gut too:
- Weeding- Zypan and Spanish Black Radish
- Seeding- ProSymbiotic and fermented foods
- Feeding- GI Stability and Prebiotic Inulin, Chorophyll and Okra Pepsin
The gi tract has an amazing capacity to heal with the right tools. Healing the gut will actually make you feel much younger and it doesn’t have to be that hard!
